I have been reflecting on the artwork in our home during this Advent season, the "inside out," or "outside in" aspect of our time of reflection in this liturgical season. Our tendency as Canadians is to hunker down during the months of colder weather but we do our best to ramble about whenever we can and the days still offer their gifts. This is the time when we prepare for the coming of the Christ who was born in a stable, Often slept rough as an adult, and taught far more often outdoors than in places of worship, if the gospels are to be believed.
Some of our collection are actually found objects from here and there in our travels, everything from rocks, to shells, to feathers. We're careful about pilfering in ways that degrade natural settings but we are fascinated by shapes and colours from the world around us.
The piece above is a tear-out poster included in Orion Magazine a few years ago with the wonderful title, BioConstellation. We had it mounted and guests often comment on the variety of treasures included and the beauty of the paintings.
The double bowls were created by friend Peter Michalski and they are perfect for the coral and rocks and shells we change up from time to time. They are on the coffee table in our family room.
The Creator is just that, the Divine Artist, if we're willing to pay attention.
